Let’s see what you need to know to organize a canyoning outing in the Alpes Maritimes with your friends or family!
Choose the good canyon considering the time spent in the river and the level of difficulty
First of all, you have to decide how difficult and how long should your canyoning tour be according to the people coming with you.
To give you an idea, you will be around 2h-2h30 in the riverbed for the half day outings while the full day trips will be around 4h. Of course the outing duration will change a little from one group to the other…
About the level of your canyoning trip in the French Riviera
We graded the different canyons around Nice from grade 1 to 4.
This grade gives you an idea of the global difficulty if you take the easier options going down the river.
For a beginner, the best is to start in canyoning grade 1 or 2 with half day tours. The only difference is that you will learn how to abseil in grade 2, not in grade 1. Even in the grade 2 half day trip, it is possible to find big jumps if you want to do some. Anyway, you are never forced to do it!
If you are rather sporty, you can directly start in grade 2 full day outings but you shouldn’t go in grade 3 being a beginner or if you are not very fit. Some of these canyoning trips can be really complicated!
More about the activity time
I gave you earlier the times spent in the water for the activity but you will spend more time with us. Indeed, it can be rather long to put on the wetsuit and take it off. There is also a little approach to reach the river and a little walk to come back…
For example, if we meet around 8h30 to do gorges du loup which is an half day canyoning trip, we should have finished around 12h00.
If you are with children or not very fit friends, an half day tour would be the best option to discover canyoning near Nice.
Two important things to keep in mind:
You must always choose the canyon according to the level of the least athletic of your group.
On top of that, it is better to start with too easy than too hard at the risk of not really having fun!

How to pay?
You have to pay with cash just before the trip. If you organize your tour a long time before coming, I can also give you my IBAN if you prefer.
What do you need?
You just need swimming trunks and sport shoes with laces to go in the river. Don’t come with almost dead shoes otherwise you could finish without shoes!
For the full day tours, take a sandwich with you and a small plastic bottle of water. We will provide special bags to bring in the canyon…
The bag does all the jumps so don’t bring eggs or fresh fruits!
Don’t come with water shoes that are sold to go on the sea side. They don’t protect your feet sufficiently!
I hope this article has been helpfull to organize your canyoning outing in the Alpes Maritimes.
